An old Faroese saying goes "wool is the gold of the Faroes". From the Viking age
up to this century, wool and wool products have been of major importance for the
existence of the Faroe Islanders. Tøting is the Faroese word for “wool work”. In
the village of Gøta you will find the knitwear factory Tøting, a small family
business that has been buying wool, spinning yarn and knitting jerseys for more
than a generation. The comfortable Tøting jerseys and cardigans are perfect for
leisure and more formal wear.

Snældan
FO-490 Strendur
For four generations Snældan has excisted as a combined spinning mill and
knitting factory. It is today one out of only two spinning mills still excisting
in the Faroes. Three generations are still working together under the same roof
securing know-how on both tradition and development. The strong boundary makes
the atmosphere quite unique.
During the summer there are daily excurcions made to Snældan. Ask the local
Tourist Information Office tel. +298 44 94 49 and +298 44 48 60.
In the factory you will be able to experience how to spin in the old fashion way and feel history pass right through your fingers as you see, hear and smell how the oldest now-living craft in the Faroes is practised. You will feel the atmosphere.
