Fugloy - the first island you meet when you travel to the Faroes from the continent of Europe. Surrounded by staggering mountains the village of Hattarvik is situated in a small bay facing southeast out to the Atlantic Ocean. Developed through centuries, you find here the quintessence of everyday life on an island. Hunting, fishing and simple farming is maintained in a cash free society. But like the rest of the world the Faroe Islands also go through urbanization and slowly but surely the outskirts become depopulated.
The film is a journey around the life of these people. Conceptions about isolation, solitude, uniformity and perseverance will be more in focus than regional policy in general in which these people always end up as small numbers in dry statistics. The aim is to create an atmosphere with these interesting people in their natural surroundings and thus let them speak for themselves in this serious discussion on extinction.
