Annual Visitors - calendar of arrivals and departures
Every year many hundreds of thousands of birds come home to their breeding grounds in the Faroes. Here are some of the annual visitors as listed on the Faroese calendar:
JANUARY
25 January - The Gannet (Súla) comes to Mikineshólm and the Guillemot (Lomvigi) comes close to the shore.
FEBRUARY
24 February - The Guillemot (Lomvigi) take to the bird cliffs.
MARCH
11 March - The Kittiwake (Rita) comes to the bird cliffs.
12 March - The Oystercatcher (Tjaldur) arrives.
25 March - The Golden Plover (Lógva) arrives.
APRIL
06 April - The Lesser Black-backed Gull (Likka) arrives.
13 April - The Snipe (Mýrisnípa) arrives.
14 April - The Puffin (Lundi) comes close to the shore.
15 April - The Wheatear (Steinstólpa) arrives.
27 April - The Puffin (Lundi) comes to "Puffinland" (Lundiland).
MAY
04 May - The Whimbrel (Spógvi) arrives.
15 May - The Arctic Tern (Terna) arrives.
JULY
31 July - The Guillemot (Lomvigi) leaves the land.
AUGUST
05 August - The young Kittiwakes (Ritupisu fleyg) take to the wing.
17 August - The Puffin (Lundi) leaves.
20 August - The Kittiwake (Rita) leaves the bird cliffs.
26 August - The Whimbrel (Spógvi) leaves.
29 August - The Arctic Tern (Terna) leaves.
SEPTEMBER
16 September - The Oystercatcher (Tjaldur) leaves.
17 September - The Lesser Black-backed Gull (Likka) leaves.
OCTOBER
02 October - The Gannet (Súla) leaves.
04 October - The Snipe (Mýrisnípa) leaves.
